Backup Power Can Be Lifesaving for Hospitals

Posted by Leigh Dow on Wed, Dec 26, 2012

Hospitals are where people go to seek help, get treated, and to be saved. Think of all the medical equipment at hospitals used to treat and monitor people’s health conditions. Blood pressure monitors, baby incubators, x-ray machines, CT scan machines, and many more. Now imagine a hospital losing its power. The lives of many people would be at serious risk.

Life support equipment, surgery equipment and communication equipment in hospitals all require electrical power in some way. This is a primary reason why electrical power is mission critical to the operations of any hospital. Backup power is important in many businesses and homes across the country today, but for hospitals it can be lifesaving.

When a natural, or unnatural, disaster occurs and causes a power outage, hospitals must have emergency backup power systems and generators to make sure everything remains on and running as human lives are at stake.

power outage, backup power, generatorAs superstorm Sandy is still fresh in our minds, let us not forget the tragedy of the hospitals along the east coast losing power and some having backup generators failing, putting many lives in danger. Hospitals, no matter how big or small or where they are located, desperately need to be sure they have backup power plans and up-to-date equipment so in case of an emergency, such as Sandy, they can remain up and running without worry and havoc.

The types of generators used for the type of power generation hospitals require can be either natural gas or diesel fueled combustion engines. At Depco Power Systems, we buy new, used and rebuilt equipment, including Caterpillar engines, Cummins generators, used diesel generators and more. If you need to upgrade your backup power or implement a backup power plan, please get in touch with one of our experts at 800.723.3726 or download our inventory list for more details.
