It's Monday video day, so check out this annual maintenance and full load test of the emergency generator located at the Malahat transmitter site just north of Victoria BC. The generator in the test keeps the radio stations CKKQ (100.3 TheQ) CJZN (91.3 The Zone) as well as CBC and more on the air during power failures. If you've ever been to Victoria, you know that can occur frequently during the freezing winter months.
This power unit was newly installed in 2010 and the generator logged more than 140 hours prior to this test run. This particular generator is manufactured by MTU Onsite Energy and is capable 100kW at 3 phase (345 Amps) connected to a John Deere PowerTech ETM 4.5L, four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Enjoy!
