Today's facility managers are tasked with anticipating the energy needs of tomorrow for their facilities. The profession wasn't actually even recognized as a discipline until the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) came onto the scene in the 1980's. The profession has evolved from on the job training to a formal educational process. The challenges and strategies today's facility managers need to plan for include:

  • Energy

  • Operations and maintenance

  • Safety and security

  • Sustainability

  • Technology

Some of the important questions facing facilities managers are what influences energy decisions, anticipating the needs of future facilities builds, supplier management, energy audits, new power sources and technologies. That's a lot to keep track of and plan for.

Energy efficiency continues to evolve and become incorporated into business goals and becoming a primary consideration in new construction. Did you know even software can contribute to more efficient energy management and managing buildings in a cost effective way?
