This video shows an impressive demonstration of a split hopper vessel in operation. At 1:05 in the video, you'll see it in action. This vessel vacuums material out of the channel and deposits it on a "hopper" on the deck. The vessel is basically made out of two separate hulls. When the vessels is ready to deposit the silt and sediment, it hulls "split" in two and the material is dumped out.
